How local coverage works

A U.S. ZIP directory resolves your city and state on this site. Headlines come from GDELT’s open news index, using English-language reports from U.S. outlets. We show metadata and links, without fetching article bodies or generating paid AI summaries.

Results must mention the city in their headline. Place names can be ambiguous, small towns may have few matches, and the index may miss local publishers. Criminal-case headlines are filtered from this automated layer. These results are separate from verified briefs and political lenses.

City caches are shared and refresh at most hourly, within a site-wide limit of 20 attempts an hour and 240 a day. Requests are spaced at least six seconds apart. New lookups refresh in the background; use Check again to see the result. Older results may remain during an outage, but headlines indexed more than 72 hours ago are hidden. Refresh limits keep this feature within the existing service budget.
